We are convinced that King of the Mountain Woolens are the finest clothing available for the outdoors lover. King of the Mountain has been the favorite among hunters, photographers, campers, the military, police and others for more than twenty years. And now KingOfTheMountainOnline.com has added Ullfrotté merino wool thermals and socks to our product line. They are the perfect complement to King of the Mountain outerwear.
King of the Mountain Wool is "As good as it gets.....to die for", according to Field & Stream Magazine's Review of Woolen Clothing, August, 2001. (And we don’t advertise in Field & Stream!)
We are not trying to sell the most ... only the best. Which means that the wool fiber we need is in limited supply, and expensive, and not always easy to get. There is a very limited weaving capacity that satisfies our specifications. We use only American wool, with assembly in the US and Canada. Some of our garments are actually hand-cut and hand-stitched in the USA. Chinese materials and labor cost only a fraction of American and Canadian materials and labor, but without the quality, we’re not interested. There is a lot more information in our section on Hi-Tech Wool.
King of the Mountain will allow you to enjoy the outdoors in comfort, year after year.
KingOfTheMountainOnline.com is a family business, run by Ralph & Debby DiMeo, mostly by Ralph..... who does the writing on this website. We have been King of the Mountain Outfitters since 2000. We became KOM Outfitters gradually, almost by accident. Here’s what happened.
I bought a Standmaster Jacket System. I didn’t really think it’d be worth the money, but I’ve always loved hunting in wool, and after probably 4 years of wondering, I figured I’d give it a try. First time I wore it was January goose season. Temperature about 10 degrees F, strong winds. I put on the Jacket, walked down the road and a few minutes later found myself thinking how the morning was really warming up nicely! Then I realized that I was wearing a warm jacket!!
It suddenly became obvious that King of the Mountain was going to be getting a lot of business from me. Thinking of myself, my sons and a couple of friends, it was clear that this could run into a lot of money! In those days, it was possible to become a KOM distributor basically by placing one large order, and that’s what I did, figuring I’d make an investment and then be able to outfit my family and friends. Which I did. As time went by, tho, KOM would refer callers from my area to me. And I found that everyone I talked to was as impressed with KOM as I was. Nobody called to complain .... no headaches, no apologies required. Everybody loved the stuff. I’d never actually planned on making KOM a business, but found that it was a pleasure talking to KOM customers, and telling new people about our products. And so, sort of gradually, I got more and more involved. And now, KingOfTheMountainOnline.com is clearly one of the primary KOM dealers. But we’re still, really, a very small business. KOM is growing, but the "big-name" wool guys probably sell more in a day than KOM manufactures in an entire year. And that’s fine. Just about everyone who wears our wool used to wear something else first .... but doesn’t anymore, and isn’t looking back, either!
When you call KingOfTheMountainOnline.com, you will be talking directly to the owners, probably with me. Debby is getting more and more involved, and works with most of our female callers. Debby also focuses on Ullfrotte, as she wears it daily for about 5 months of the year.
We are located in South Orange, New Jersey, a short distance from New York City and Newark Liberty International Airport. Our place is very easy to get to, but even so, over 95% of our business is mail order. We have clients throughout the USA and Canada. And Europe too. It works very well. Shipping is fast and free to our customers. Sizing is seldom a problem.
We have made a huge commitment to inventory. We try to keep all of the "standard" items in stock. Place an order with us and you’ll usually receive your shipment in 2 or 3 days.
Feel free to come by and take a look at King of the Mountain products anytime you are in the Northeast New Jersey/New York City area. If you're a bowhunter, we have a 17-yard indoor range, so bring your bow and see how this clothing feels in action! As a courtesy to our customers, we also offer the use of our nearby rifle range.
Our website is secure and encrypted, so you can safely order online, from the convenience of your home. Or just pick up the phone, as most of our customers do.
